Top Events Week 7, 2012

Duke Basketball TicketsNow that the Superbowl is over (are you happy the Giants won??  Poor Tom Brady.  Thwarted by Eli Manning AGAIN) We’ve entered that time of year when there’s not really a ton going on in the world of sports.  Sure there’s basketball and hockey, but playoffs for the NBA and NHL are still months away and March Madness doesn’t start for another month.

Clearly the most exciting game on the horizon is the North Carolina vs. Duke basketball game, which always draws huge attention due to their fierce rivalry.

So, here’s your hodge podge top events for the upcoming week:

Top Events 2012 Week 7 (2/6/2012 to 2/13/2012)

1. North Carolina vs. Duke Basketball 2/08/2012 Chapel Hill, NC

According to a 200 poll conducted by ESPN, this is considered to be the fiercest rivalry in all of sports.  That’s a pretty epic statement.  The intensity is mostly attributed to the two schools close proximity.    Once again the No.5 Duke and No.6 UNC are fighting for first place in the ACC.

2.) Rascal Flatts 2/11/2012 Verizon Arena, Little Rock, AR

This is their 2012 Winter Tour named “Thaw Out”.  This tour includes special guest Sara Evans and opener Hunter Hayes.  This summer Rascal Flatts will participates in the Summer American Band Tour with Little Big Town, Eli Young Band and Edens Edge.

3.) Rascal Flatts 2/10/2012 BJCC Arena Birmingham, AL

Rascal Flatts is huge in the South.  Birmingham is always a top destination for country music.

4.) Monster Jam 2/11/2012 Sun Life Stadium Miami, FL

For those unfamiliar, The tour begins in the late winter each year and ends in March with the World finals in Las Vegas every year.  For the past two years, Grave Digger and Maximum Destruction have dominated the event.

5.) AMA Supercross 2/11/2012 Qualcomm Stadium San Diego, CA

Tons of great seats are still available for the San Diego event.  A main difference between motocross and Supercross is that  supercross tracks are more technical, not as fast as motocross but have a much higher difficulty level, further adding to the injury risk factor and subsequent enthusiastic audience.
6.) Barry Manilow 2/11/2012 Radio City Music Hall New York City, NY

Mr. Manilow is taking to the road to promote his new album “Playlist: The Very Best of Barry Manilow”.  He is known for his lively and personal concert experience.

7.) George Strait, 2/10/2012 Gwinnett Center Duluth, GA

George is promoting his new album “Here for a Good Time.”   Really good tickets are still available for his Duluth show.

8.) Wilco 2/8/2012 Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, Portland, OR

The Chicago alt rock band while not popular in the mainstream sense, certainly has a huge cult following.  Their most recent album, “The Whole Love”, was released on September 27th, 2011.

9.) Monster Jam 2/12/2012 Allstate Arena Rosemont, IL

At Monster jam shows, monster trucks face off in two different forms of competition – Racing and all the best of Freestyle.

10.) Sleeping Beauty 2/6/2012 McCallum Theatre Palm Desert, CA

The Moscow Festival Ballet’s rendition of the classic, Sleeping Beauty, is sure to be timeless and beautiful.

Big Time Rush to hit the Road in February

If you are wondering who the next teen pop sensation is going to be, look no further than Nickelodeon stars Big Time Rush.  The hit cable television show follows 4 hockey players (Kendall Schmidt, James Maslow, Carlos Pena, Jr. and Logan Henderson) as they form a boy band.  Big Time Rush (BTR) is currently on tour promoting their latest album Elevate and is set to mimic the success of Miley Cyrus following her stint as Hannah Montana. 2012 NCAA Tournament Schedule

Any veteran of marketing playoff and tournament tickets knows that prior preparation is essential.  However, unlike many other sports, tickets to the NCAA tournamentgo on sale long before the teams participating are announced.  Even further compounding marketing efforts is the fact that even for teams who are all but assured a spot in the NCAA Tournament field of 68, no one knows where they will be playing until the bracket is officially announced on “Selection Sunday”.

2012 NCAA Tournament TicketsWhile this presents a level of difficultly, it also represents a major opportunity since most fans wait to purchase tickets until after the match ups and locations are announced. While you can’t start marketing tickets to particular college basketball teams, you can start marketing to local fans of college basketball in general.

This year’s tournament is shaping up to be big in terms of ticket demand with some major college basketball hubs on the schedule.  The 2nd and 3rd round games in Pittsburgh, Louisville, Columbus, Nashville, and Greensboro are sure to be extremely popular regardless of which teams end up playing there.  The regionals are also in cities conducive to attracting college basketball fans from across the country.  In particular, the East Regional in Boston and the Southeast Regional in Atlanta should draw premium prices.  It also doesn’t hurt that the top teams in the country (Syracuse and Kentucky) are likely to end up the #1 seeds in each of these regions.

So with that in mind, here are some key dates and the official schedule of events for the 2012 NCAA Tournament.

Top Events Week 6, 2012

With Super Bowl XLVI taking place this weekend it is no wonder that the top 3 events this week are all Super Bowl related.  The Super Bowl is always a hot ticket but this year is especially big due to the teams involved:  the New York Giants and New England Patriots.  Not only do you have two of the largest sports markets in the country involved but you also have the two that hate each other the most.  Most people think of the Boston-New York rivalry as between Red Sox and Yankees fans.  However, the hatred spills over to all sports (Celtics vs Knicks, Patriots vs Jets/Giants, Bruins vs Rangers, etc.).  The NFL took a lot of heat for hosting the Super Bowl in a cold weather city (Indianapolis) but it doesn’t look like they are going to have any trouble attracting fans to all the festivities.Super Bowl XLVI

Although Super Bowl event dominated this weeks events, there are also plenty of other events worth mentioning.  Some old favorites and some new.  So without further delay, here are your top 10 events this week…

Top Events 2012 Week 2 (1/30/2012 to 2/5/2012)

1.  Super Bowl XLVI 2/5/2012 Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis, IN

Tom Brady vs Eli Manning (Round 2).  Two big cities and a heated rivalry equals high ticket prices and big TV ratings!

2.  HDNet-DirectTV Super Bowl Party 2/4/2012 Victory Field, Indianapolis, IN

Sometimes going to the many Super Bowl parties is better than actually going to the game. This one is one of the best being hosted by Peyton Manning and Mark Cuban.  The party includes a full open bar, plenty of food, and live entertainment including KATY PERRY!

3.  Maxim Super Bowl Tailgate Party 2/5/2012 Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis, IN

This is looking to be the king of all tailgate parties.  The Maxim event will be hosted by Guy Fieri, Tony Siragusa, Dakota Meyer, and April Rose and will include premium food and beverages, Maxim celebrities, Maxim girls, and plenty of other VIP’s.

4.  Jason Aldean 2/2/2012 Oklahoma City Arena, Oklahoma City, OK

The Jason Aldean’s My Kinda Party tour is still kicking strong.

5.  Jason Aldean 2/4/2012 Assembly Hall, Champaign, IL

Jason Aldean isn’t just big in the South…he is extremely popular with the college crowd as indicated by the popularity of his University of Illinois show.

6.  Disney On Ice: Mickey & Minnies Magical Journey at Nationwide Arena Columbus, OH

Disney On Ice shows are always popular this time of year as families are looking for things to do inside.

7.  The Book of Mormon 2/5/2012 Eugene ONeil Theatre New York, NY

Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s hit musical is still the toughest ticket in New York.  It’s surprising this isn’t on the list on a more consistent basis and people are constantly searching for tickets to this sold out show.

8. Jim Gaffigan 2/3/2012 Horseshoe Southern Indiana Elizabeth, IN

Northwest Indiana native Jim Gaffigan makes the list for his show in his home state of Indiana.   If you haven’t heard some of Jim Gaffigan’s stand-up comedy you really need to check him out of YouTube – “Hot Pockets“.

9.  Boston Bruins vs Pittsburgh Pengiuns 2/4/2012 TD Garden Boston, MA

Not much better matchup in hockey than a good old Bruins – Penguins game.  The TD Garden will be rocking on Saturday night!

10  AMA Supercross 2/4/2012 Angel Stadium Anaheim, CA

The AMA Supercross events continue to be big as they are tour largest baseball and football stadiums.  This weekends’ event at Angels Stadium is sold out yet many fans are still looking for tickets- especially in the lower levels.
